This department administers, enforces, and regulates the building, zoning, and construction laws within the city limits of Columbus and the two-mile extra territorial area surrounding the city. The Community Development Department is responsible for permitting services, development review, implementation, and maintenance of the Comprehensive Plan.
Requests for variances at Board of Adjustment meetings are considered the third Monday of each month at 9:00 am in the City Council Chambers, 1369 25th Avenue. These requests must be submitted by 5:00 pm the first Monday of each month to the Community Development Department so they can be included on the agenda.
The Planning Commission meets at 7:00 pm the second Monday of each month in the Council Chambers, 1369 25th Avenue. Agendas for these meetings are prepared by the City Clerk’s office.
