Columbus Area Transit (CAT) is a call-based system that provides public transportation to all regardless of their race, ethnicity, age, sex, or disability. Service is scheduled on a first-call first-served basis within the Columbus city limits. Patrons complete a transportation demographic and acquire punch cards through the CAT office. See Fees for boarding rates.

Each bus/minivan is handicap accessible and lift equipped. CAT's drivers receive specialized training in assisting the elderly and handicapped to ensure safe transportation. Riders complete demographic information, which is kept in a confidential file. Contact the CAT office for information on purchasing a punch card required to ride.

Reservations are requested at least one day in advance. Riders are asked to be ready 15 minutes before scheduled pick up. Be advised that delays do occur during peak hours, due to high volume, limited seating, passenger tardiness, road conditions, and/or traffic.

The Columbus Area Transit is funded by the City of Columbus, Nebraska Department of Transportation, Columbus Area United Way, area citizens, businesses, and organizations.
