August 9, 2022 (Norfolk, Neb.) — Weather permitting, construction work will begin on August 15 on Phase 1 of the EPA Superfund site on 23rd Street in Columbus, according to the Department of
Transportation.
The westbound lanes will be closed from approximately 28th Avenue to 23rd Avenue. This work will involve removing existing pavement between 26th Avenue and 25th Avenue and replacing contaminated material. Traffic will be shifted to a two-way, two-lane roadway in the eastbound lanes and 26th Avenue will be closed north of 23rd Street. Traffic will be allowed to enter and exit 26th Avenue south of 23rd by right turn only. Traffic will be controlled with stop signs or by flaggers.
Phase 2 of the EPA Superfund site will begin at the completion of Phase 1, with completion of all work scheduled for fall of 2022. Project information available on NDOT website at: ndot.info/32234.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
