The City Public Works Department has announced Columbus' Snow Emergency will officially come to an end at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 18, 2024.

City Public Works Director Chuck Sliva said crews have continued to be busy plowing and clearing the roads, noting his appreciation to the community for its patience and understanding throughout the last week.

Although the Snow Emergency is being lifted, Mother Nature still isn't quite done with winter weather just yet. The area will continued to be in a Wind Chill Advisory and Winter Weather Advisory throughout today, Jan. 18, and much of Friday, Jan. 19, according to the National Weather Service.

NWS predicts Columbus should expect snow, mainly after 11 a.m. today, Jan. 18, with patchy blowing snow after 3 p.m. and a high of approximately 17. Total daytime snow accumulation of around an inch is possible. Columbus then has a 30% chance of snow before 7 p.m., with a low around -6 and wind chill values as low as -20. Expect it to be windy, with a north northwest wind 20 to 25 mph decreasing to 14 to 19 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph.

On Friday, Jan. 19, it is predicted to be mostly sunny and cold, with a high near 7. Wind chill values will be as low as -23, with northwest wind 10 to 17 mph, and gusts as high as 22 mph.
