The City’s Water Utility crews have responded to a 12” watermain break in the vicinity of 1720 23rd Street – (Hwy 30 @ 18th Avenue).
About a dozen businesses in the immediate area were temporarily out of water as crews shut down a portion of the system to make repairs.
Some water customers may experience a slight discoloration in the water coming from faucets and in toilets for the next several hours as a result of this incident. By running the tap for a minute or so, this discoloration should go away. The water, while discolored, is safe to use.
The watermain in question was constructed out of ductile iron and most likely was damaged due to corrosion. Repairs have been made and the system is now operational. Crews from the Street Division assisted in spreading salt in the area to minimize icing of the road surface.
