Mayor Mike Moser is submitting the name J.P. (Prent) Roth, Jr. for appointment to the City Council, 4th Ward, at the April 18, 2016, City Council meeting per City Council Rules.
This appointment will be to fill the unexpired term of Terry Reardon, who is moving outside the city limits. If approved by the City Council, Mr. Roth will be sworn in at the May 2, 2016, City Council meeting.
Prent Roth received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas, and his Master’s Degree in Industrial/Management Science Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After working for the Kansas Power and Light Company for 8 years, he moved to Columbus, where he has been a resident for over 40 years. Prent was employed at NPPD for 30 years, most of that time as the Engineering Supervisor for Lines and Substations, where he supervised a team of engineers and technicians responsible for the design of NPPD’s high voltage transmission facilities. After retiring in 2003, he continued to work for NPPD on a part-time basis for another 5 years, being involved with construction inspection and purchase of power transformers. Since that time, although he is “retired” he continues to work as a contract consultant for other companies.
Mr. Roth is a very active member of our community, currently serving as Treasurer for Grace Church and for the Columbus Tennis Association, and as a member of the Columbus Morning Rotary and the Joint Airport Zoning Board. He sees his appointment to the Council as an opportunity to “give back“ to the City of Columbus.
