Before the flood event, Quail Run consisted of seven holes on the north side of the Loup River Levee and eleven holes on the south side of the Levee. Since the flood event the City has been working to address the damage at course. The process to move forward will take time because of the many constraints outside of the City’s control. The City is working with our Insurance Carrier, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to determine a plan of action at Quail Run Golf Course while taking extreme care to be good stewards of City resources. Presently, the City’s insurance provider has assigned an adjuster. An inspection has been completed; the City is waiting on the report from the adjuster. FEMA has approved Platte County for Public Assistance (PA), the City is working through that process.
Damage on the South side of the Loup River levee
The flood deposited a large amount of sand and ice on the south portion of the course. The rushing water and ice combination caused significant damage to nearly all of the course infrastructure including the land, trees and irrigation system.
2019 Season
Quail Run is currently open. After some modifications, there are now nine playable holes at Quail on the north side of the levee. This was accomplished by adding two par 3 holes, one at the nursery green and one at the chipping green. The Park Board and City Council will be considering a rate adjustment to the Quail Run rates. The rate recommendation is to apply the VanBerg Golf Course rates to Quail Run.
Current Priorities
At this time the priorities at Quail Run include:
1) Repair the irrigation system. The entire Quail Run Course is irrigated using a pond on the south side of the levee. That pond and the underground irrigation infrastructure was severely damaged during the flood. This is a top priority because the nine holes on the north side of the levee will need to be watered in order for the course to stay open the entire season.
2) Options to move forward. The City has begun to gather information, but the options to move forward are entirely dependent on what the insurance and Public Assistance Grant allow.
As more information about the options to move forward become available, updates will be provided to the public.
