The City Council amended Mask Ordinance was approved at this week’s City Council meeting.
Because the current Coronavirus cases are below the amended sunset provision, the mandatory mask requirement for Columbus, NE will be lifted at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021.
Local businesses still maintain the right to require masks within their businesses and on private property if they choose.
New provisions of the ordinance state that if the seven-day rolling average of new COVID-19 cases is below 50 new cases per 100,000 people in Platte County for 14 consecutive days, then the mandate will be lifted. If at any point the seven-day rolling average incidence for COVID again is at or above 50 new cases per 100,000, the requirements will then be imposed again. This information is reported by East Central Health Department. If cases increase above this provision, the City will give notice to the community.
